e-REPORT FROM RYE STUDENT CRYSTAL MATTICE

Rotary Youth Exchange (RYE) student Crystal Mattice updated the Berlin Rotary Club through e-mail on her Rotary Youth Exchange (R.Y.E.) trip to Italy.  Crystal’s Exchange year is coming to an end and is expected back in the United States on June 17th.  Crystal is the daughter of Mike and Sharon Mattice of Berlin.

            Crystal writes (May 19, 2011);

Warm weather has arrived! Unfortunately that means my Rotary Youth Exchange
year is also coming to an end. I have had such an unforgettable year. I
learned a new language and a whole new culture. Along the way I've met
students from all over the US and people from all over the world. I hope we
can continue to work together in these up coming months in promoting and
building a sustainable RYE program in Berlin. Bringing the program to Berlin
would open so many doors for students and our community to learn about our
world. I have had such a great experience that I wish it could be available
for all students. I hope we can organize a date for me to come and do a
presentation at a Berlin Rotary meeting. I'll be teaching you all some
Italian customs and the cultures base as well as showing you pictures of the
places I have been. With the Melegnano Rotary, I had opportunities to see
Rome, Venice, Milan and our last trip just this past weekend to Florence.
If I could have your permission, I would like to also see a few areas in
Europe before I have to return. There are some WWII and holocaust museums in
Prague, Berlin, Munich and Amsterdam that I would like to see. I would be
going along with a RYE student, Nicole Lehto of West Bend who is studying in
Turkey. I have permission from my family and my host family and my host
Rotary would like confirmation from Berlin Rotary if I have permission for
this trip. I have learned the train system, know of safe hostels and have
emergency contact information for all countries. If you prefer I take this
trip at another time, it is understandable.

Thank you very much,

Crystal Mattice
